Windows 11 in the MAR channel

Availability:
Windows 11 licenses are available in the MAR channel only in electronic version.

Hardware:
The basic requirements are the same as officially stated by the manufacturer:
– 1 GHz or faster processor, with at least 2 cores, a compatible 64-bit processor or a processor compatible with System on a Chip standard (SoC, 8th gen. INTEL processors and above)
– memory 4 GB RAM
– disk space 64 GB or more
– UEFI firmware with secure boot support
– TPM Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0

Upgrade:
For eligible Windows 10 devices, the upgrade to Windows 11 is free. It is possible to install Windows 11 on a Windows 10 license key; it is not necessary to install Windows 10 to upgrade to Windows 11 later.

Downgrade:
The downgrade option is important because free support for Windows 10 will end in 2025. Windows 10 End Of License (EOL) would probably take effect at the end of 2023 (at least 2 years before the end of support). Windows 11 electronic keys allow you to activate the lower version of the system, this operation will be automatic and will not require any additional actions. After the end of the sale of Windows 10, the downgrade option will be the only option to install the popular “tens”. Unfortunately, MAR / TPR agreement does not allow to install Windows 10 on devices that do not meet the minimum requirements for Windows 11.

Installation of keys:
Installation of electronic licenses is done using standard tools (MARXpress Tool or PowerShell scripts).

Millions of tons of e-waste:
The planned end of support for Windows 10 and the minimum system requirements for Windows 11 will make a large part of used computer hardware waste, as in a few years there would be no software supported by the manufacturer for those devices. Equipment that has an older processor than Intel 8th generation in a few years will still be able to be safely used, but … not with the Microsoft operating system. Is it certain thas Windows 10 support would cease in 2025? It is not known at the moment, but there will certainly be a discussion about millions of tons of operational equipment that can no longer be used.
